Janssen Foreign Law Office Builds and Enhances Baker & McKenzie Euro-Japan Group

Janssen Foreign Law Office has obtained support and trust from its clients over the past seven years, which has allowed us the opportunity to prove our competitiveness handling their important projects in this demanding market.

The basis for our competitiveness has always been our objective of pursuing the best interests of our clients without compromise. Consistently with this objective, we have made the decision to join Baker & McKenzie.

Starting April 2007, the entire JAFLO team will join the Tokyo office of Baker & McKenzie together with a group of key partners from Asahi Koma Law Office comprising Fumio Koma, Yasunori Hashiguchi and Shinichiro Abe. Each of these partners and Markus Janssen will become a Principal of Baker & McKenzie International and a partner of Baker & McKenzie Tokyo. Peter Schimmann will join Baker & McKenzie Tokyo as local partner, and will be immediately dispatched to the Frankfurt office, where he will continue to work as a closely integrated member of our team.

The fact that we are able to make this move with the JAFLO team and our closest cooperation partners from Asahi Koma Law Office means that we will be able to continue to provide our clients with the same team and level of legal services, reinforced by the rich resources of Baker & McKenzie.

In particular, we are looking forward to enhance our services through the formation of a Euro-Japan Group which will focus its efforts on European business in Japan and Japanese business in Europe.

The Euro-Japan Group will be a closely cooperating team of lawyers in the Tokyo and European offices of Baker & McKenzie. The team will comprise lawyers with extensive experience in both Japanese and European business as well as in negotiating and drafting in the local language, and taking into account the norms of the local culture. As integrated part of the specialist practice groups at Baker & McKenzie including the M&A Group, the Banking and Finance Group and the Intellectual Property Group, the Euro-Japan Group will be able to provide legal support on a global scope and offer to our clients legal project management with a competitive edge in multi-jurisdictional transactions where Japan and/or Europe are of key interest.
